About Tallahassee Table

Breaking bread together is one of our most social human activities, and I’m convinced that food is the key to knowing a place and its people.

Here in Tallahassee and the surrounding area, we may not have, in sheer numbers, the dining choices some other locales have, but there’s a very vibrant — and growing — food culture here.

I hope you’ll help me, and you, grow with it. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

I don’t often pick salmon in restaurants because I don’t often pick salmon in restaurants because I tend to be disappointed, but not so with this rendition at Lucilla on Lafayette Street. The juicy slab of fish, with a maple miso glaze, had the perfect balance of salt and sweetness, the coral flesh buttery tender. It came with sides of crisp fingerling potatoes and sauteed spinach. Lucilla, owned by Joe Richardson and partner Lara Hooper, is the whole package!
Strawberry season is taking off! I just got these Strawberry season is taking off! I just got these beauties with my Red Hills Small Farm Alliance Online Market order. The berries are from Spring Hill Tree Farm in Bainbridge, Ga. My husband took one bite and exclaimed “Oh my!” If you want to pick them yourself, Spring Hill Tree Farm is celebrating family weekends through May 15. 🍓🍓
Life in Tallahassee got a little sweeter today (Ap Life in Tallahassee got a little sweeter today (April 4). Shipley Do-Nuts opened its first franchise in Tallahassee, at 1412 W. Tennessee St. located near Florida State University.

My husband and I stopped by the shop’s Friends and Family premier event on Saturday and had the chance to meet the gracious franchise owners Tony Villareal, his wife Bridget and son Anthony Ace, who is 15 months old. We also tried one of their light fluffy strawberry glazed doughnuts and a kolache. Or I should say my husband gobbled the kolache and I managed to get a bite. I can’t blame him. I didn’t even manage to get a photo of it before it was gone.

The roll is made from the same dough used in the doughnuts. The fillings include sausage and cheese, sausage, cheese and jalapeños and ham and cheese in a regular size and a bigger version called Bold.

You’ll find more than 60 varieties of doughnuts including an old-fashioned glaze version, sprinkled or filled plus cinnamon rolls, bear claws, fritters and doughnut holes.

Welcome to Tallahassee!

But don't miss lunch when there's a buffet with classic entrees and sides, all good for the soul. For more info see the link in bio! 🍗 🧇
This week my husband and I enjoyed some of the bes This week my husband and I enjoyed some of the best, and most authentic, Mexican food we’ve had in Tallahassee from a bright blue food truck called Tally Taco parked off Apalachee Parkway. Owners Abelino Nava and his wife Yadira, originally from Acapulco, make fresh Mexican fare daily, including their own corn tortillas. We devoured tamales, fish tacos, amazing churros and these delicious birria tacos (pictured). They also serve burgers, empanadas, tortas, burritos, wings and daily specials. As one customer said, the food is addictive. 🌮

Aside from ordering takeout, I hadn’t had dinner inside Mimi’s since the pandemic started.  At first bite, I remembered the delicious food I've been missing, like our entrees of Tuscan chicken and a seafood grill. Mimi's is still one of the best! 🍗 🍷

Also enjoy pastries, packaged baked items; Vietnamese snacks; boba teas, slushies, milk teas and Vietnamese coffee. I liked the Paris by Night drink with milk, boba pearls and brown sugar. Yum. A welcome new experience! More at TallahasseeTable.com 🥐
