About Tallahassee Table

Breaking bread together is one of our most social human activities, and I’m convinced that food is the key to knowing a place and its people.

Here in Tallahassee and the surrounding area, we may not have, in sheer numbers, the dining choices some other locales have, but there’s a very vibrant — and growing — food culture here.

I hope you’ll help me, and you, grow with it. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

It’s been more than a year since we’ve had a m It’s been more than a year since we’ve had a meal at a fine dining restaurant without taking our food home in a box. Last night, we dined on the patio at downtown Il Lusso and it was wonderful. We started with an appetizer of charred octopus, perfectly cooked and plated beautifully, served with gigante beans and bites of mortadella. We enjoyed the rest of our meal as well but one of the best parts: being pampered by an excellent staff. That’s something you can’t get in a togo bag. 🐙
If you’re looking for a place to eat brunch on E If you’re looking for a place to eat brunch on Easter Sunday 🐰 🐣 you have lots of choices. You can dine-in, enjoy an al fresco meal — like our patio setting at Horizons (pictured) in Bannerman Crossings — or get takeout. Some restaurants are offering special menus or their usual  Sunday lineup. Find out more about Easter Sunday destinations from the link in bio! 🍳
The Slide Hustle food truck had been touting its S The Slide Hustle food truck had been touting its Sunday-only cheesesteak. My husband and I finally got there today and each devoured an appropriately gooey, Philly-style cheesesteak, complete with Cheese Whiz and lots of chopped green bell peppers and onions. A bonus: Pairing it with Deep Brewing Company’s own IPA Reef Dweller. Cheers! 🍺 🥪
We made it to Chuck’s Fish for brunch for the fi We made it to Chuck’s Fish for brunch for the first time, and really enjoyed the food and the setting! We savored a rich crab cake Benedict with a chipotle Hollandaise sauce and their perfectly crisp chicken and waffles. You can pair your meal with coffee or four cocktail options like a Bloody Mary or Poinsettia (with cranberry juice and Cointreau). Come back for fresh fish and sushi for lunch or dinner! 🧇 🍗
You probably know chef Leon Brunson from his four You probably know chef Leon Brunson from his four years working at Kool Beanz Cafe or from his in-person or virtual cooking lessons. Now, at age 26, Leon is the owner of a restaurant in Lake Ella. He purchased the business from Keith Baxter, owner of Kool Beanz, and he plans to open in the fourth quarter of the year or sooner. The restaurant, called Leon’s, will specialize in private dinners, catering, cooking lessons and events! So excited!🎉👏🏼 📷: Leon Brunson
The new La Florida Coffee & Wine in the downtown K The new La Florida Coffee & Wine in the downtown Kleman Plaza features sandwiches for lunch on French baguettes baked by owner Jean Uthmeier along with terrific homemade cookies, cakes and muffins. You can also stop by for a breakfast sandwich and coffee in the morning and come back early evening for a glass of wine and snack like pimento cheese or Jean’s homemade focaccia. There’s dine-in, takeout and outdoor seating. And we love Jean’s goal to bring more of a community atmosphere downtown!
