Special to Tallahassee Table
There’s a new spot for fruity bowls, smoothies and quick bites in College Town. Playa Bowls Tallahassee opened on June 10th at 699 W. Gaines St.
The New Jersey-based franchise, founded in 2014, offers a large and customizable menu of fruit-forward treats. The casual beach-themed cafe is one of 17 Playa Bowls locations operating in the Sunshine State.

Playa Bowls offers a selection of unique bowl bases packed with super foods, including açaí, pitaya (also known as dragon fruit), green (with kale, banana, and pineapple) and coconut. Toppings include granola, Nutella, cacao nibs, coconut flakes, hemp seeds, goji berries and fresh fruit. The menu also offers a variety of chia pudding bowls, smoothies, oatmeal bowls, fresh juices and New Orleans-style chicory cold brew coffee.

The space is bright and cheerful, with a relaxing tropical vibe and upbeat music. Many of Playa Bowls’ fresh, colorful ingredients are prominently displayed behind the counter.
Playa Bowls’ expansive menu conceals hidden gems.
My personal favorite bowl base is the “Booster,” tucked away in the “Special Bowls” section of the menu. I hope this unique blend, featuring banana, spirulina, vanilla protein, flax oil, peanut butter and cashew milk, is a permanent special.
A refrigerator stocked with bottled drinks and protein bites is easy to pass by, but you’d be well advised not to skip it. The pumpkin protein bites (a fall special) aren’t quite as eye-catching as other menu items, but what they lack in aesthetics they more than make up for in flavor. Made with pumpkin flax granola, peanut butter, honey, chia seeds, vanilla protein, pumpkin butter and pumpkin spice, these convenient little bites pack nutrition and flavor.

No matter what you order from Playa bowls, the focus on high-quality and flavorful ingredients shines through. If you’re looking for a fresh, fun and nutritious treat in College Town, try out Playa Bowls.
And don’t miss this sweet deal: Playa Bowls Tallahassee is celebrating the new school year by giving Playa rewards members $2 off any bowl or smoothie. This back-to-school promo is available for one-time use until Oct. 15.
