About Tallahassee Table

Breaking bread together is one of our most social human activities, and I’m convinced that food is the key to knowing a place and its people.

Here in Tallahassee and the surrounding area, we may not have, in sheer numbers, the dining choices some other locales have, but there’s a very vibrant — and growing — food culture here, and an abundance of knowledgeable foodies.

I hope you’ll help me, and you, grow with it. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

Co-owner Edgar Gamez credits most of the recipes to his mother and grandmother, originally of Michoacán in western Mexico. Some of these family recipes include Maria’s Tostada, Enchiladas Caseras, Chicken Mole and Carne en Chile. These delicious dishes are like having dinner in a Mexican home. 🇲🇽 🌮 🌯

Restaurants and bakeries are rising to the occasion and offering lots of specials for Valentine's Day. Most restaurants, including upscale destinations, are also offering both dine-in and takeout meals. The new Horizons Bar & Grille is a new destination The new Horizons Bar & Grille is a new destination in Bannerman Crossings, serving classics like this Greek salad with salmon, burgers, tacos, steaks, chicken and lots of appetizers. Horizons is owned by Mike Smith and Kyle Flowers, who were behind the operating team of Spear It before the restaurant closed due to Covid 19. Happy to see them starting anew. 📷: Tori Lynn Schneider / Tallahassee Democrat.
We just devoured our delicious lunch from the new We just devoured our delicious lunch from the new restaurant, Blue Turkey, which made its debut this week at KitchenShare inside the Frenchtown Heritage Hub and Farmers’ Market building. We loved the “Space Shuttle” pinwheels, their spicy crushed vegetable dip, chicken diner wrap, Berlin-style diner and cheezlava (a Turkish-style baklava). Can’t wait to go back! 🇹🇷

I’ve been craving traditional Hanukkah dishes so I’ve been craving traditional Hanukkah dishes so I’m happy we now have a kosher restaurant in Tallahassee, Cafe Yerushalmi, on Lake Bradford Road. Owner/chef Magi Mekaiess, originally from Jerusalem, prepares authentic dishes like potato latkes, sufganiyah (the holiday treat of round jelly doughnuts), falafels, bourekas (baked pastries with fillings), hummus, beef kebabs and skakshuka (eggs poached in a tomato sauce).
