About Tallahassee Table

Breaking bread together is one of our most social human activities, and I’m convinced that food is the key to knowing a place and its people.

Here in Tallahassee and the surrounding area, we may not have, in sheer numbers, the dining choices some other locales have, but there’s a very vibrant — and growing — food culture here.

I hope you’ll help me, and you, grow with it. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

The Peruvian restaurant Cafe de Martin has just ad The Peruvian restaurant Cafe de Martin has just added breakfast on the weekend. We dashed over to enjoy a treat of delicious French toast, made with brioche, topped with berries and bacon; add a drizzle of blueberry syrup. Other choices include a classic egg platter, omelets and Peruvian sandwiches. Lima-born chef/co-owner Martin Araujo Bohorquez serves authentic fare from his homeland for lunch and dinner as well. It’s worth the trip! 🇵🇪 🍞
We joined friends for dinner at the recently opene We joined friends for dinner at the recently opened restaurant, The Huntsman, located in the former home of Cypress Restaurant, and we had a great time. We wound up trying  the South Texas Antelope Sirloin (pictured), venison backstrap, charred octopus with red deer chorizo (pictured) and kale jazzed up with wild boar bacon. If you're not interested in a meal on the wild side, other specialties include wagyu short rib, duck breast,  seaside pot pie and mouth-watering seared redfish, which was my choice (pictured). There are options for vegans and vegetarians as well. This is such a varied menu, we've just scratched the surface. For more info, visit the link in bio! 🍽
Black Radish is a bright new spot in Tallahassee w Black Radish is a bright new spot in Tallahassee with a vegetable-driven menu, from chef/co-owner Matthew Swezey and co-owner Jesse Edmunds (Liberty Bar, Hawthorn Bistro & Bakery…). It focuses on small plates like our delicious corn ribs and a heirloom tomato sandwich on Hawthorn sourdough. Don’t miss the housemade spinach tortellini. There are a couple larger meat dishes for sharing. Black Radish is a very welcome addition! 🌽 🍷
The Tomato Feastival, which benefits the Red Hills The Tomato Feastival, which benefits the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance, is coming back to Tallahassee’s Goodwood Museum & Gardens on June 12, offering more food, beer and participants than ever before. Look for games, an old-fashioned cake walk, a farmers' market, raffles, a silent auction, a beer garden and a tomato contest – and you don't have to be a farmer to show off your backyard beauties. More at the link in bio! 🍅
I don’t often pick salmon in restaurants because I don’t often pick salmon in restaurants because I tend to be disappointed, but not so with this rendition at Lucilla on Lafayette Street. The juicy slab of fish, with a maple miso glaze, had the perfect balance of salt and sweetness, the coral flesh buttery tender. It came with sides of crisp fingerling potatoes and sauteed spinach. Lucilla, owned by Joe Richardson and partner Lara Hooper, is the whole package!
Strawberry season is taking off! I just got these Strawberry season is taking off! I just got these beauties with my Red Hills Small Farm Alliance Online Market order. The berries are from Spring Hill Tree Farm in Bainbridge, Ga. My husband took one bite and exclaimed “Oh my!” If you want to pick them yourself, Spring Hill Tree Farm is celebrating family weekends through May 15. 🍓🍓
Life in Tallahassee got a little sweeter today (Ap Life in Tallahassee got a little sweeter today (April 4). Shipley Do-Nuts opened its first franchise in Tallahassee, at 1412 W. Tennessee St. located near Florida State University.

My husband and I stopped by the shop’s Friends and Family premier event on Saturday and had the chance to meet the gracious franchise owners Tony Villareal, his wife Bridget and son Anthony Ace, who is 15 months old. We also tried one of their light fluffy strawberry glazed doughnuts and a kolache. Or I should say my husband gobbled the kolache and I managed to get a bite. I can’t blame him. I didn’t even manage to get a photo of it before it was gone.

The roll is made from the same dough used in the doughnuts. The fillings include sausage and cheese, sausage, cheese and jalapeños and ham and cheese in a regular size and a bigger version called Bold.

You’ll find more than 60 varieties of doughnuts including an old-fashioned glaze version, sprinkled or filled plus cinnamon rolls, bear claws, fritters and doughnut holes.

Welcome to Tallahassee!

It was fantastic! Thanks so much TLH Beef Society and volunteers and all the breweries, food vendors and talented Ben!

TLH Beer Society @TLHBeerSociety

Free craft beer from 16 different local breweries. Amazing food trucks, a local oyster famer and the delicious TC Bakery. The soon-to-be famous Ben Flournoy of Quincy (he's only 16) on the 🎤 and 🎸.

This was, undoubtedly, one of the most EPIC parties in Tallahassee history. https://twitter.com/wakullawriter/status/1556080059550769152
